A home for all Misfits

The Concept is in the name

The apostrophe matters. Misfits' Comedy Club isn't a club for misfits, it's owned by them. A room open to all, built and run by the community it serves.

Think of all the other artforms. Dance, music, film, theater, visual arts, you name it. Each one has a nonprofit venue, a support structure, a place built specifically to serve the people making the work. Comedy has none of that. No nonprofit infrastructure, no dedicated venue, no system built for the people doing it. Comedians build their own scenes out of bar backrooms and borrowed stages, with no safety net and no path to something permanent. Local Laughs Collective exists to close that gap. Misfits' Comedy Club is what every other art form already has: a space the community owns, built to outlast any one producer, host, or booking cycle.

Comedy, The artform left behind

Opening a comedy club takes real capital. This budget breaks down what it actually costs to build Misfits' Comedy Club from an empty space into a working venue: construction, sound and lighting, a stocked bar, six months of rent and payroll before ticket sales catch up, and a cushion for the unexpected. The liquor license is listed separately because it's optional but changes the math significantly. This isn't a wish list. It's the real number community ownership has to hit before the doors open.
